New Students

First-Year Application Process

First-year students are guaranteed on-campus housing. In May, Residential Living emails students’ Georgetown account, a “Welcome to On-Campus Housing” email with instructions on how to participate in all options of the housing application process. Students fill out their housing application within the Hoya Housing portal.

Hoya Housing is Residential Living’s online student housing portal where all applications, forms, resource reservations, and email correspondence is hosted.

First-Year Housing Application
1. Sign the Housing Occupancy Agreement (HOA),
2. Fill out the Living Preference Questionnaire (LPQ)
3. Provide Emergency Contact information.
Optional: Apply for a Living Learning Community (LLC) and/or search for/select a roommate with our CHARMS roommate process.

First-year Housing Application opens: May 6, 2024

Students complete the Living Preference Questionnaire, Emergency Contact Information, Housing Occupancy Agreement, and create a Roommate Profile.

CHARMS opens: 9 AM ET, Monday, June 3, 2024

Students may use the CHARMS portal to search and message potential roommates. If you find a roommate you want to live with you can request and confirm on another.

CHARMS closes: 12 PM (noon) ET, Friday, June 28, 2024

After the deadline, all first-year students who have submitted an 2024-25 Housing Application are randomly assigned to one of the new student residence halls on campus.

All students receive their housing assignment, roommate confirmation and move-in instructions the first week of August 2024; this includes students who are accepted into an LLC and students with accommodation housing requests.

  • First-year students cannot request a specific residence hall or room and all assignments are random
  • Important: Students who require specific housing due to religious need must submit this in writing to newstudenthousing@georgetown.edu. Requests due: 12 PM (Noon) ET Friday June 21, 2024
  • Single rooms are not available to first-year or sophomore students, unless per accommodation housing process.
  • Students requiring accommodation housing on the basis of disability should apply through the Academic Resource Center. Accommodation requests are due 12 PM (noon) June 21, 2024
  • Frst-year students are not assigned to apartments or with upperclass roommates, unless the student elects to live in a Living Learning Community housed in an upperclass hall
  • Non-Discrimination Statement — We provide housing to undergraduate students on a non-discrimination basis

Transfer Student Application Process

In June, Residential Living staff email all transfer students, to their Georgetown account, a “Welcome to On-Campus Housing” email with instructions on how to participate in all options of the housing application process.

Georgetown University offers housing for incoming transfer students on both the Hilltop Main Campus and at the 55 H Street Capital Campus.

Transfer students are prioritized for the Hilltop Campus as space is available, then assigned to 55 H Street, Capital campus.

Housing on the Hilltop campus is in double or triple residence hall rooms. Junior transfers are considered for apartment and suite spaces, as available. 55 H Street, Capital campus offers single rooms within shared apartments; there are two floors of this building that house undergraduate students.
