Living Learning Communities

Live with students who share your passions. Learn alongside engaged faculty. Connect through events, activities, and conversations that spark collaboration and deepen friendships. This is where classroom discussions continue over dinner and academic growth happens naturally.

What is a Living Learning Community?

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are unique residential spaces where students can explore their passions while building meaningful connections with peers and faculty. Through social events, educational activities, and moments of reflection, LLCs extend learning beyond the classroom and foster a supportive environment for personal and academic growth. These communities are designed to spark collaboration, deepen conversations, and celebrate the learning that happens in everyday campus life.

At Georgetown, all Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are guided by three core goals:

Building BelongingFoster a strong sense of community through meaningful dialogue, informal connections, and shared experiences.
Deepening LearningCreate opportunities for students to explore new passions, gain understanding, and make meaning of each community’s unique theme.
Faculty EngagementProvide intentional spaces for students, faculty, and staff to connect and engage beyond the classroom.

All Living Learning Communities (LLCs) require an application, which can be completed through Hoya Housing. Both new and returning students must submit an application each year to be considered for membership.

Frequently Asked Questions

We believe that learning occurs within every residential community. The additional experience provided by a Living Learning Communities is to reside with a community that possesses a shared interest, and having the opportunity to further explore that interest through experiential and academic programming as well as collaboration between campus partners.

Students who are offered a space in a LLC have a few days to decide if they would like to accept or decline their space. We ask that the student commits to living within the community for the full academic year. If a space is declined, it will be offered to a student on the waitlist. If a student accepts their space in the LLC.

Single rooms are limited on campus and limited within the LLC inventory.

Your future roommate can also apply to be a part of the LLC, however if they choose not to do so, then you will not have a choice to room with that individual. If you are both accepted to live in the community, you can request to live with one another. If your roommate choice is not accepted and you are and/or vice versa, then you will be placed a roommate randomly based on compatibility.
