Move-In Policies: What You Need to Know
To ensure a smooth and efficient move-in experience, please review the following policies before your arrival:
- Label Items — Make sure that every box, package, and piece of luggage is labeled with your: Name, Building & Room Number, and Cell phone.
- One Vehicle Per Student – Each student is permitted to bring only one vehicle to campus for move-in.
- Vehicle Restrictions – Avoid oversized vehicles or roof racks, as they cannot park in our on-campus garages and may complicate your move-in process.
- Dashboard Sign Required – A dashboard sign will be sent to each student. Please place it on your vehicle’s dashboard upon arrival to help our team direct you efficiently. If you cannot locate your sign, email residentialliving@georgetown.edu for assistance.
- Ship Ahead with Storage Scholars – Make move-in stress-free by shipping your belongings to Storage Scholars over the summer. They’ll receive, notify, and deliver your items directly to your room before you arrive—so you don’t have to lift a finger!
By following these guidelines, you’ll set yourself up for a smooth and memorable move-in experience. We can’t wait to welcome you to campus!
Move-In Process: What to Expect
Arrival & Check-In
- Assigned Arrival Window – Each student has a 30-minute arrival window (e.g., 11:00–11:30 AM) on a specific date. View your assigned time on the Hoya Housing portal and plan accordingly.
- Dashboard Sign Required – Place your dashboard sign visibly on your vehicle’s dashboard as you enter the queue.
- Vehicle Queue & Unloading – Vehicles will queue through campus until a space is available at the designated unloading zone outside your residence hall.
Unloading & Parking
- Stay in Your Vehicle – Once parked, students exit the vehicle to check in, while drivers remain inside.
- Move-In Aides Assistance – Move-in aides will unload belongings into move-in carts labeled with the student’s name and phone number.
- Parking – After unloading, the driver must immediately exit the unloading zone and proceed to a free, two-hour parking area on campus.
Moving Belongings into Your Room
- Retrieve Your Cart – After check-in, students return to collect their move-in cart and push belongings into their room.
- Cart Return – Once your items are in your room, return the empty cart to the check-in station.
