Safety & Security

Georgetown uses an integrated approach to safety and security on campus and in the surrounding community, coordinating a network designed to provide a safe environment, to prevent problems before they occur, to respond swiftly and effectively when problems arise and to maintain essential services and business operations after a serious incident.

In the event of any emergency situation on the Hilltop campus, members of the campus community should call the Georgetown University Police Department at (202) 687-4343.

In the event of any emergency on the Capitol Campus, call the Capitol Campus Department of Public Safety (CC-DPS) at (202) 662-9325.

Residence Hall Security

Depending on your residence hall, your room will have either a traditional key-based lock or a Switch Tech digital lock. If you ever have trouble accessing your room, the Harbin Key Room (104) is here to help—just stop by or give them a call for assistance.

Campus Safety App

The LiveSafe App is your go-to resource for staying safe and connected on campus. With features designed for real-time support, you can anonymously report safety concerns—from suspicious activity to mental health issues—directly to GUPD, even attaching photos, audio, or video for a faster response. Need a ride? Request a SafeRide for secure, point-to-point transportation during late hours. SafeWalk lets you share your location with friends, keeping you in touch until you arrive safely. In an emergency, you can instantly connect with 911 or campus police, triggering location tracking for a rapid response. The app also provides quick access to vital resources, including sexual assault support, mental health services, and bias reporting, along with a Campus Emergency Response Guide to help you navigate any situation.
