In some instances, students may need to remain on campus during the period after the academic year ends and before summer housing begins. Common cases include student athletes and students enrolled in summer courses at Georgetown.
May Transition
Important Dates
- Academic year housing ends: 10 AM, Sunday, May 11, 2025
- May Transition Housing available: May 11 – June 1, 2025
Eligibility
- Students with on-campus intern housing, Pre-Session, Session I, or Full Session Summer housing
- Students sponsored by a Georgetown University department, including graduating seniors
Details
- Location: Traditional residence hall (unless you’re a graduating senior)
- Move-in Date: Transition to your May Transition assignment hall starts at 10 AM on May 12, 2025
- Cost: $100 per night, billed to your student account (unless sponsored by a Georgetown department or graduating senior)
- Graduating Seniors: You may remain in your Spring 2025 room until 10 AM on May 19, 2025
Important Notes
- Department-Sponsored Housing: If your housing is sponsored by a University department, confirm with them that you’re on their May Transition roster.
- Late Stay Requests: If you have extenuating circumstances, email residentialliving@georgetown.edu by Noon on April 4, 2025. Please note that late departure requests after May 11 cannot be accommodated. Submitting a request does not guarantee approval. All late stay requests are subject to review and may be denied by Residential Living.
August Transition
Students eligible for August Transition housing are those who are either sponsored by a Georgetown department or have resided on campus throughout the summer and have a upcoming Fall housing assignment.
Students cannot move in any earlier than the date outlined by Residential Living. Please refer to our Housing handbook for further information.

- Academic year housing starts: 10 AM, Sunday, August 24, 2025

- Students with on-campus intern housing, or Full Session Summer housing
- Students sponsored by a participating Georgetown University department, including Residential Living summer student staff
Details
- Location: Traditional residence hall
- Move-in Date: Transition to your assigned traditional residence hall starts at 10am on assigned August transition date.
- Cost: $100 per night, billed to your student account (if you are not sponsored by a Georgetown Department)
