New Students

First-Year Application Process

First-year students are guaranteed on-campus housing. In May, Residential Living emails students’ Georgetown account, a “Welcome to On-Campus Housing” email with instructions on how to participate in all options of the housing application process. Students fill out their housing application within the Hoya Housing portal.

Hoya Housing is Residential Living’s online student housing portal where all applications, forms, resource reservations, and email correspondence is hosted.

1. Sign the Housing Occupancy Agreement (HOA),
2. Fill out the Living Preference Questionnaire (LPQ)
3. Provide Emergency Contact information.

Through the CHARMS portal, students can search for and message potential roommates. If you find someone you’d like to live with, you can send a roommate request and confirm each other as roommates within the portal.

After the CHARMS deadline, all first-year students who have submitted a 2025–26 Housing Application will be randomly assigned to one of the new student residence halls on campus.

All students — including those with approved housing accommodations — will receive their housing assignment, roommate confirmation, and move-in instructions during the first week of August.

  • First-year students cannot request a specific residence hall or room. All housing assignments are made randomly.
  • Single rooms are not available to first-year or sophomore students unless approved through the accommodation housing process.
  • First-year students are not assigned to apartments or placed with upperclass students as roommates.
  • Non-Discrimination Statement: Residential Living provides housing to undergraduate students on a non-discriminatory basis.

Transfer Student Application Process

In June, Residential Living staff will send a “Welcome to On-Campus Housing” email to each transfer student’s Georgetown email account. This message will include instructions on how to participate in all parts of the housing application process.
