Housing Selection

For Returning Undergraduate Students: All housing selection processes for returning students takes place through Hoya Housing. Students are expected to know and understand the process prior to taking place in Group Formation or a Selection Phase.

Start Here: Understand the Process

Before getting started, we recommend reviewing the following:

Senior Eligibility

Who Should Apply for Eligibility

Rising Seniors wishing to live on campus must apply for Senior Eligibility during the prior Fall Semester (e.g. apply for Senior Eligibility in Fall 2025 to be considered for the 2026-2027 academic year), including the groups listed below. Senior Eligibility does not guarantee housing; it allows the opportunity to participate in the Housing Selection process.

Studying Abroad? Read This

If you’re going abroad in the fall or full academic year, you won’t participate in Housing Selection. However, students awaiting final approval can go through the process and will be removed if approval is finalized.

Fall Study Abroad Hold Option

Students going abroad for fall can request a hold on a campus apartment space.

Selection Points: Your “Place in Line”

Each student is assigned points based on class year:

How It Works

During Group Formation, your group’s average point value determines your selection order.

Your official class year comes from the Dean’s Office and is visible in Hoya Housing.

Group Formation: Choose Your Roommates

Declare your roommate group during this phase:

Group Formation Phase 1

Form a group of exactly 4. Larger apartments and townhouses will allow “pull-ins” later. See the “Pull-In Process” section under the “Selection Times” section below for more information.

Group Formation Phase 2

You can form a group of:

Forming Your Group

  1. One student creates the group in Hoya Housing (Group Leader)
  2. The Leader shares the group name/password
  3. Each member logs in and joins the group before group formation ends
  4. For Phase 1 each group will be automatically verified when your group obtains 4 members

Groups can change until the formation deadline. Verified groups can assign a new leader if needed. *There are no group member changes after group formation is closed.

Selection Times

After Group Formation ends, Residential Living assigns selection times based on your group’s point average. The Group Leader will receive a specific date and time to log in and select a unit for the group.

If your group doesn’t qualify in Phase 1, you’ll be notified and can regroup for Phase 2.

Selection Phases & Room Selection

Each phase has its own Selection window:

Housing Selection Phase 1

Housing Selection Phase 2

During Your Selection Time

The Group Leader will:

  1. Log in to Hoya Housing.
  2. Select “Housing Applications” in the blue navigation bar.
  3. Select an available space (in real time).
  4. Assign each group member to a specific bed. Your selection of bed spaces for each group member will affect their housing charges.

If choosing an apartment with a single room, note that it carries a higher rate.
All group members will receive a confirmation email.

Pull-in Process: The Group Leader will see an additional page on the application where they will be prompted to identify the roommates they wish to add to the additional beds. Any beds that are not filled at the Group Leader’s request, will show up during the Phase 2 Selection process.

Important Notes:

Special Cases

Leave of Absence or Study Abroad during Spring

You may still participate—ask your Group Leader for the group name and password. The space you vacate for the spring will be open for Residential Living to fill as needed. Otherwise, a resident of the unit residing there for the full academic year may request to fill your vacancy by completing a Spring Vacancy Filling. You must sign the Housing Occupancy Agreement within two weeks of being assigned, or you’ll lose the space.
