First-Year Students
First-Year Application Process Overview
First-year students are guaranteed on-campus housing. In May, Residential Living will send a “Welcome to On-Campus Housing” email to students’ Georgetown accounts, providing instructions on how to participate in the housing application process. Students will complete their housing application through the Hoya Housing portal, which is the online system for all housing applications, forms, resource reservations, and email correspondence.
First-Year Housing Application Steps:
- Log into Hoya Housing and select “Housing Applications” in the blue navigation bar.
- Click “Apply” next to the appropriate academic year housing application.
- Sign the Housing Occupancy Agreement (HOA)
- Complete the Living Preference Questionnaire (LPQ)
- Provide Emergency Contact Information
- Use the CHARMS roommate process to search for or select a roommate during the CHARMS open date (see Important Application Dates section) .

- Housing Application Opens: May 5, 2025
(Complete the LPQ, Emergency Contact Information, HOA, and create a Roommate Profile) - Accommodation Housing Requests: Due by 12 PM ET, Friday, June 21, 2024
- Residency Exemption Requests: Due by 12 PM ET, Friday, June 20, 2025
- CHARMS Opens: 9 AM ET, Monday, June 2, 2025
(Search and message potential roommates; request and confirm a roommate) - CHARMS Closes: 12 PM ET, Friday, June 27, 2025 (After this date, first-year students will be randomly assigned to a new student residence hall on campus)
First-Year Housing Assignments:
All first-year students who submit a housing application will be randomly assigned a room. Housing assignments, roommate confirmation, and move-in instructions will be sent in the first week of August.
- First-year students cannot request a specific residence hall or room; all assignments are random.
- Important: Students requiring specific housing for religious reasons must submit a written request to residentialliving@georgetown.edu by 12 PM ET, Friday, June 20, 2025.
- Single Rooms: Not available for first-year or sophomore students unless granted through the accommodation housing process.
- First-year students can request to live in a single gender floor on the living preference questionnaire of the application. Floor locations may vary based on demand.
- Students requiring accommodation housing due to disability should apply through the Academic Resource Center. Requests are due by 12 PM ET, Friday, June 21, 2024.
- First-year students are not assigned to apartments or with upperclass roommates unless they choose to live in an LLC housed in an upperclass hall.

Transfer Students
Transfer Student Application Process Overview
In June, Residential Living will email transfer students a “Welcome to On-Campus Housing” message with instructions on how to participate in the housing application process.
Transfer Student Housing Options
Georgetown offers housing for incoming transfer students on both the Hilltop Main Campus and the 55 H Street Capital Campus. Transfer students are prioritized for the Hilltop Campus, depending on available space, and will be assigned to 55 H Street if necessary.
- Hilltop Campus: Double or triple residence hall rooms. Junior transfers may be assigned to apartments or suites, as space allows.
- 55 H Street, Capitol Campus: Single rooms in shared apartments. There are two floors housing undergraduate students.
Transfer Student Important Application Dates
Transfer students should complete their housing application through the Hoya Housing portal, where all applications, forms, and communications are hosted.
