Roommate Selection Options: First-year students can choose a roommate by:
Participating in CHARMS (Campus Housing Roommate Matching System), or
Being matched by Residential Living based on compatibility from the Living Preference Questionnaire.
Living Preference Questionnaire:
All on-campus students must complete this questionnaire as part of the Housing Application in Hoya Housing.
CHARMS participants use the questionnaire to match with potential roommates.
If not participating in CHARMS, Residential Living will use your answers to match you with another student.
CHARMS matching takes place in June, and Residential Living makes roommate assignments after that.
You will be notified of your room assignment in early August.
Changing Roommates
Room Changes: Room change requests are only granted for emergencies until the second week of classes.
Roommate Conflicts: If you’re considering a room change due to a conflict, start by discussing it with your RA or CD. Mediation may be the first step.
Request Process: After the second week of the semester, a formal Room Change request form will be available on Hoya Housing. Submit this form after consulting with your RA.
